This pathfinder provides an annotated list of resources that address Navajo Indian culture in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries (though some of the sources include historical information as well). These sources provide information on social customs, ceremonies, religion, art, housing, economy, folklore/legends/myths, games, food, clothing, and more. Many of these sources also include excellent photographs.
Sources listed in this pathfinder include the following: biographies, books, databases, periodicals, visual materials, and websites. This is not an exhaustive list of sources, since there are far too many to include, but the sources included here address many different facets of Navajo culture and allow users to gain a general overview of Navajo culture and traditions. Many of the sources focus exclusively on the Navajo, though the databases, encyclopedia, and some of the periodicals include other tribes and cultures and will therefore need to be searched more carefully to find information on the Navajos.
The goal of this pathfinder is to provide users with a variety of relevant resources, conveniently organized into one website, that will assist them in learning more about Navajo Indian customs and cultural practices of today. This pathfinder can be used by anyone interested in learning more about Navajo culture (such as people who are traveling and/or moving to Navajoland), as well as high school and college students who need to conduct general research on the Navajos for reports and projects. All of the sources listed (with the exception of the free websites) can be accessed through the San Juan College Library in Farmington, New Mexico.
