These free websites provide excellent, credible information on Navajo culture and current events. They do not have to be accessed through the San Juan College Library but can be accessed anywhere. Content includes information for tourists (attractions, maps, facts, and more); links to articles, newspapers, and other resources; photo galleries; videos; audio interviews; current events calendars; and information about the yearly Northern Navajo Nation Fair, an extremely important and popular cultural event.

Discover Navajo

Created and maintained by the Navajo Tourism Department, this site contains information on attractions (including trading posts, national monuments, and more); maps; links to articles/stories that provide information on Navajo culture, beliefs, and traditions; frequently asked questions; facts; pictures; and links to other resources, including auctions, business, Navajo government, and tour companies. Also contains a Navajo Tourism Video Series (including an especially interesting etiquette video), audio interviews with several Navajos, fun facts, featured articles, a current calendar of events, and more. The site is up-to-date, attractive, and easy to navigate.

Encounter the People: Navajo
Includes a few facts about the Navajo people but primarily focuses on information on Navajo arts and crafts, specifically basketry, pottery, sandpaintings, silverwork and jewelry, and weaving. Also includes video clips on various crafts, as well as a photo gallery of Navajo people, art, and culture. Links to additional websites and lists of suggested readings are also included. This site is created and maintained by the Northern Arizona Native American Culture Trail (NANACT). The layout is simple and attractive, and the site is easy to navigate.

Miss Navajo: A Documentary by Billy Luther 
Contains information on the Miss Navajo Nation Pageant and the 2007 film, Miss Navajo, A Documentary. Also contains information on elements of Navajo culture, including food, religion, clothing, music, language (with pronunciation audio clips), and the role of women. Includes a video clip in which former Miss Navajo Nation winners discuss their experiences and responsibilities as Miss Navajo Nation. Also includes links to other Navajo and Native American resources. The site is created and maintained by Independent Television Service (ITVS).

Navajo People - The Diné
Contains information on Navajo art, rugs, language, jewelry, pottery, culture, legends, housing, sandpaintings, food, clothing, and more. Includes links to hundreds of pictures of Navajo people, culture, and history. Also includes videos, a current Navajo Nation calendar of events, additional books and references, links to Navajo newspapers and current news items, as well information on current cultural events. Site content is provided by Harry Benally, a Navajo carver and silversmith, and Harold Carey, a Navajo historian. Though some non-related advertisements appear on the site, the overall site layout is attractive and easy to navigate.

Northern Navajo Nation Fair
Contains information for the 2013 Northern Navajo Nation Fair and includes pictures; a schedule of events; and information on the Miss Northern Navajo Nation Pageant, Yei Bi Chei Ceremony, Open Show Rodeo, Youth Day, Indian Market, and more. Information is extremely current. Also includes archives from the 2011 fair, as well as links to other websites on Navajo government and culture and a link to the Navajo Times newspaper. No authors are listed, but contact information is provided for the Northern Navajo Nation Fair Office and for the fair directors. Site layout is organized and attractive.
